Should Abortion Be Illegal

Abortion is the termination of pregnancy tissues or the fetus. The legalization of abortion has sparked a debate in many nations. Amidst protests, some nations have gone ahead to legalize it. Others are still debating about the issue with the consideration of religious and cultural aspects raised by the citizens. In this essay, it is asserted that abortion should be illegal.

Jeopardizing the Reproductive Health of Women

To start with, abortion endangers the health of many women. Many of them complain of inability to conceive after many episodes of abortion. Not to forget, abortion is mostly done by young girls who may have overlooked the idea that they will want to conceive at some point in life. And, because of financial constraints, they are unable to conduct it in the best health facilities. This increases the chance of reproductive health complications later in life.

Some people argue that legalizing abortion will ensure that women get the best medical attention, hence reduce reproductive health complications. However, there is not guarantee that women will go to a legitimate health facility to conduct the abortion. Out of fear and shame, many women will still want to visit unqualified and strange people for the abortion. More so, many of them, especially the young girls, do not have the amount of money required by the legitimate health facilities.

The Law Does Not Represent the Views of Some Groups

In addition, even in countries where abortion has been legalized, some of the citizens are not happy about the whole matter. For instance, the religious group is not represented by such a law. More so, as the cases of abortion in such countries are recorded, cases of irresponsible sexual behavior also increase. It means that even when one eliminates the pregnancy, they can still get pregnant again and contract various diseases as well. Arguably, emphasis should be laid more on abstinence and having protective sex other than legalizing abortion. Still, morality should be taught among the women in their reproductive years so that they can engage in socially acceptable behavior.

In some instances, abortion should be encouraged. When a pregnant woman’s life is in danger due to ill health, she has no option but to let the medical practitioners eliminate the pregnancy. Understandably, many nations have legalized abortion only on such basis. However, conducting it for other personal reasons does not only raise moral questions, but it also jeopardizes the reproductive health of a woman. Precisely, abortion should not be legalized.
