TOPIC: Is there such thing as "retirement" anymore?

We're living longer, healthier, more active lives.
We're working past 65 whether because we have to, or like to.
We're full-timers, part-timers, volunteers... and money doesn't stretch
as far as it used to.

What does "retirement" mean then? Is there such thing as retirement?

Send us your comments and thoughts before January 30th, 2012.

Editorial Guidelines:
Do you have a story idea which would be good for printing in a Silver and Gold Magazine issue? Writers interested in submitting Editorial should consider the following guidelines:

1) Section of Interest:

Which of the following sections of Silver and Gold is more suitable for your editorial submission?

  • Family & Home: Special holidays, home renovation, recipes & food, events, real estate, gardening, theatre, etc.
  • Your Health: Exercise, tips on natural remedies, hearing, foot care, metabolism, health-related hobbies and participation, etc.
  • Business Matters: Relating to owning a business, work, finances, savings, retiring, refinancing, estates, legal, government news & tips.
  • Travel: Taking a vacation, do’s & don’ts of traveling, hobbies, pastimes, focus on a particular location for travel.
  • Other special sections: May include Memoirs, Volunteer Spotlight, Mother’s/Father’s Day, Grandparenting, Lifestyle stories, etc.

2) Expertise:

Which is your area of expertise? What industry do you focus on which may be of interest to our readers?

Editorial submissions are a great opportunity to show readers that you know your industry very well, and to share your experience and knowledge with them. This editorial should be written in a generic format, that is, with a focus on your expertise and not on your particular place of business (see Advertorial, below). This may be written in such a way which would entice the readers to want to find out more and follow-up with the writer (footnotes describing writers’ expertise and contact information are always provided for readers’ information).

3) Length:

Editorial submissions may be provided in two formats:

Column: with a maximum count of 400 words, the layout will be typically set-up as a vertical-format column with one or two supporting photographs.

Article: with a maximum count of 1000 words, the layout will typically be set up to flow between supporting photographs.

4) NOTE: Advertorials:

An editorial submission is a great opportunity to showcase a writer’s expertise and knowledge in their industry, not their specific business. Articles submitted in such a format, and focusing on one particular business (ie: “At Joe’s Party Place we provide...” “only at Jane’s Printing...”) are considered Advertorial and thus chargeable as advertising space. All submissions will be inspected and must be approved by Silver and Gold Editor, who may also provide suggestions and corrections.

5) Cost:

Advertising clients who sign on with a yearly advertising contract (6 issues) for a half-page or full page ad will have an opportunity to provide Editorial twice per year – content and space approval to be determined by Silver and Gold Editor. This editorial is an added value for clients who want to gain the respect of readers by sharing knowledge and expertise in their field. (Please also see note on Advertorials, above).

Professional writers are paid according to their expertise and style. Please inquire for rates.

6) Technical Details:

Editorial submissions may be provided in Word format (.doc), by email to Silver and Gold Editor, Suzanne Soto-Davies, at:

       suzanne@sngpublishing.com

Please note unrequested submissions are subject to printing without writer's expectation of pay.
